Chelsea have reportedly told Roma how much they must pay to sign Romelu Lukaku permanently next summer amid his impressive form on loan.

Lukaku has registered seven goals across his opening eight games for Jose Mourinho’s side in Serie A and the Europa League respectively.

Chelsea have been trying to offload Lukaku for a while – but after they were unable to secure a permanent exit – he moved to Roma on a season-long loan.

His glowing start at Roma means Chelsea may be able to secure a bigger fee for him in the summer of 2024 than they had previously thought.

According to reports, Chelsea have already fixed a price for Lukaku, and are looking to receive £37m for the 30-year-old Belgium international striker, who is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2026.

Chelsea splashed out a whopping £97.5m to sign Lukaku in 2021, brining him back to west London for a second spell.

But it ended up being a total nightmare for both the club and player, with Lukaku sent out on loan to Inter Milan last term.

He was linked with permanent moves to various clubs in the summer transfer window, including Juventus, but a deal did not get over the line despite Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino confirming Lukaku was not in his plans.

It is thought that Lukaku was forced to train with Chelsea U21s this summer, making it clear that he had no future at the club.

Meanwhile, it emerged last month that Lukaku convinced Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku to snub Chelsea, according to Anderlecht’s academy director.
