Debunking the rumour through its state chairman, Nathan Solomom, the union said 18 months salary arrears owned by the Taraba State government to teachers has not been paid.

Speaking on Saturday, the Taraba NUT also lamented that union dues deducted from teachers salaries for over two years by the state Primary Education Board have not been remitted to the union’s account.

The union said the situation has made life difficult for its members across the state.

“One mischievous thing the rumour may cause is that teachers may have some debt to settle, for not taking salaries for close to two years, and with this kind of falsehood, somebody may descend on them while the money is not there.”

The Taraba NUT chairman added, “What I once told journalists was that the teachers who were sacked by the recent past administration of former Governor Ishaku have been reinstated by Governor Agbu Kefas.

“The sacked teachers were not paid for over 18 months but when the governor reinstated them back to work he ordered that all their salaries should be paid and it was done accordingly.”

He stressed that the union is “still pleading with the governor to prevail on the State Primary Education Board to remit the over two years union dues to our account for us to continue with our activities”.
