Police arraign four for allegedly stealing employer’s N5m

Two supervisors and two cashiers were on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba for allegedly stealing their employer’s N5 million.

The defendants are 29-year-old supervisor, Paul Ipadeola, 28-year-old cashier, Anuoluwapo Babalola; another supervisor whose age was not stated, Martins Chibuzor, and a cashier, Dorcas Abimbola, aged 27.

They are facing two-count bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, told the court that the defendants conspired amongst themselves and committed the offences  between January and August, 2023.

Akeem said that the defendants conspired to steal the sum from Health Rite Pharmacy and Supermarket located at No 4, Ogunnusi Road, Ojodu Berger, Lagos State.

According to the prosecutor the theft was discovered during auditing of the company’s account.

He said when asked, the defendants could not give a satisfactory explanation about how the money got missing.

Akeem said the offences committed contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The Chief Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until October 23 for mention.
