Ahead of the final judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Bashir Ahmad, an erstwhile media aide to former President Muhammad Buhari, has expressed confidence that the court would uphold President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
In a post on his official X account, Bashir claimed that the president is committed to democratic principles, citing his respect for the judiciary.
According to him, since the tribunal commenced hearing the petition filed by the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, seeking to truncate Tinubu’s victory, the president has continued to advocate for the rule of law.
He wrote, “As we await the final pronouncement of the verdict from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, the confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s victory remains steadfast.
“His electoral mandate, and his unshakable respect for the judiciary is a hallmark of his commitment to democratic principles. Throughout the tribunal proceedings, he has consistently advocated for due process and the rule of law”.
Newspot reports that the five-member panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, are currently declaring judgment on the petitions.
The court had earlier thrown out a suit filed before it by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) seeking the disqualification of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
