Erik ten Hag refused to specify what Varane’s injury was in his post-match press conference but Varane was sent for scans.
The results have shown that Varane has sustained an injury that will keep him out for a ‘few weeks’.
The defender will therefore miss Sunday’s trip to the Emirates.
Victor Lindelof came on to partner Lisandro Martinez against Forest and it will be between the Swede and Harry Maguire to come into the starting XI.
It’s another in a growing list of injury problems for United boss Ten Hag.
Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo are already out through injury.
Rasmus Hojlund is yet to make his debut for the club due to a back problem.
However, the Dane could be included in Sunday’s squad after training with the first team on Tuesday.
