The Federal Capital Territory Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Olusola Odumosu, on Tuesday, declared war on vandals and economic saboteurs destroying government properties.

Odumosu made the declaration while taking over the reins of command from his predecessor, Peter Maigari in Abuja.

The Commandant pledged that measures would be put in place to make the FCT a safe environment.

He said, “I have declared war on vandals of traffic lights and communication equipment, economic saboteurs, criminals, and manhole thieves among others. These are all critical assets that contribute to the day-to-day existence of Nigerians.

“NSCDC, as the lead agency to fight criminals who are sabotaging the sectors under my leadership, I will ensure that these criminals are put in their place.”

Odumosu noted that strategies are in top gear to reduce crimes in the FCT.

He stated “I have mapped out strategies and that will involve the deployment of more men. We will also increase patrols during the day and night. One of the reasons why these saboteurs misbehave is the fact that they do not see enough security presence around these facilities. The FCT command will improve on that.

“I will rejuvenate the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Unit which I will start with because it is a serious business. The criminals cannot subject the government to unnecessary expenditures.

“I want to say on this note that as I am taking over leadership, I will not disappoint the Commandant General and the people of FCT. I will do my best. I am here to serve.”

Odumosu also tasked the personnel to be hardworking and remain loyal to the country.

The commandant said “You see how the CG operates and we are going to work very assiduously to key in.

“I want to encourage those of you who before now had lost hope on the job or did not feel motivated, I want to tell you that it is going to be different. I am a hard worker and so if you want to work with me, you must be hard working.”

In his farewell address, Maigari who was proceeding on a strategic course advised personnel to cooperate with the new commandant to improve the FCT command.
