Manchester United have seen an opening bid for Benjamin Pavard turned down by Bayern Munich, but the two clubs remain locked in talks to find an agreement.

The World Cup winner is Erik ten Hag’s choice to replace Harry Maguire, who has agreed personal terms over a £30million move to West Ham United.

United will not sanction Maguire’s departure until after Monday’s game against Wolves, as Ten Hag doesn’t want to risk being left short.

Pavard has a year remaining on his deal at Bayern and he’s made it clear that he’s not interested in signing an extension.

The Frenchman is keen to explore a different league and has already agreed personal terms – in principle – over a move to Old Trafford.

But Sky Sports Germany say United’s opening offer has been knocked back by Bayern.

While a fee has not been disclosed, Bayern are said to be seeking around £30m for the 27-year-old.

That’s exactly the price United will receive from West Ham for Maguire, but United had been keen to sign Pavard for a lower fee to save cash.

Nevertheless, talks continue as the two parties seek to reach a compromise.

Bayern are seeking to recoup cash after signing Harry Kane for an initial £86m.

The England captain made his debut in a 3-0 Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday, which Pavard also featured in.
