Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State on Friday revealed that the recent workers’ verification exercise embarked upon by his administration has saved the State about N500 million.

Mutfwang stated this while delivering his address at the swearing-in of 19 commissioners recently screened by the State House of Assembly and a Special Adviser.

He said, “When we came in, workers in the state were on strike, because they were been owed salaries from February to May 2023.

“We set up a committee to verify the workforce in the state.

“The process was able to save the state the sum of about N500 million.

The Governor said the workers have received salaries for February and March, assuring that salaries for April and May would soon be paid.

On the appointees, the Governor warned that “This appointment is not an opportunity to pursue your own selfish desire, but to serve the state.

“You are not responsible to only your Local Government but to the entire state.

“We will be holding you responsible based on your performance, in your various areas of responsibility”, he maintained.

On the current economic hardship being experienced by the citizenry, he assured that palliatives would soon be made available and urged citizens not to engage in unholy activities, as fairness would be strictly adhered to in the distribution exercise.

Meantime, the Governor has appealed to religious leaders to speak to their adherents, urging them to preach harmonious relationships.

“It is not time to continue to fan the embers of hatred”, he admonished.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Commissioner for Higher Education, Mrs Kachollom Gang, thanked the Governor for appointing them.

She also assured that they will put in their best to deliver on their mandate.
