Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he hopes the Red Devils’ players were hurt watching their Premier League rivals Manchester City complete a continental treble last season.

Man City made history last season as they won the Premier League title, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side won the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Man United in the final.

It was a demoralizing end to the season for Erik ten Hag’s side, who had ended a six-year wait for a trophy by winning the Carabao Cup.

However, Ferdinand is hopeful that Man City’s success will inspire a response from Man United players in the upcoming season.

The former England defender told talkSPORT: “I hope it hurt the [Manchester United] players.

“I hope [Manchester] City’s celebrations hurt them. It should burn their chests to see their rivals be so successful.”

“It should inspire them to be better,” Ferdinand added.
