The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, Benue State, Prof Innocent Ujah, on Friday, called for a complete overhauling of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.
The vice-chancellor made the call during the third matriculation ceremony of the new students of the institution held at the temporary campus of the institution in Otukpo.
Ujah, the former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, decried the poor implementation of the policy and suggested that the system should be scrapped if the Federal Government could not overhaul it.
Giving the reason for his call, the VC regretted that some of the university’s staff members who had been employed for over one year had not been paid due to the poor implementation of IPPIS.
He said, “As I make this presentation, I’m saddened to state that some of our staff members who have been employed for over one year have not been captured on IPPIS and, therefore, have not been paid a kobo as salary even when there is an approved budget.
“Perhaps, it is appropriate to call for the scrapping of the IPPIS policy because it is the worst welfare bequeath to Nigerian workers.”
