The National Open University of Nigeria has advocated for more opportunities and flexible academic programmes for staff and inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service to gain admission and study courses of their choice at the university.

This was contained in a statement signed by the NCoS Spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, on Wednesday.

The Coordinator of the NCoS-NOUN Special Study Centre, Controller of Corrections, Francis Enobore, while enumerating new admission offers available in the university, disclosed that holders of National Diplomas with lower credit can now get to study the course of their choice in the institution.

Enobore further noted that “holders of Higher National Diploma seeking fresh admission would be admitted into 300 level.”

While stressing that these offers are open to both staff and inmates of the NCoS, he said, “Inmates in correctional facilities have distinguished themselves, as some of them are among the best-performing students in the university.”

Welcoming the delegation, the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, was delighted that the University has reviewed and improved upon its academic programmes.

Represented by the Deputy Controller General in the Directorate of Non-Custodial Service, Ahmad Tukur, the CG reiterated the Service’s readiness to key into the reforms of the institution in line with its mandates to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate offenders back into society.
