After several weeks of negotiations, United have now agreed a £47 million deal with Inter to sign Onana.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper arrived at United’s training ground on Wednesday afternoon to finalise his move and is expected to join up with Erik ten Hag’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.
Van de Beek has already played alongside Onana at Ajax and the Dutch midfielder says he has ‘high expectations’ for United’s new arrival.
Asked about United’s decision to sign Onana, Van de Beek said: ‘Yeah, he’s a great goalkeeper.
‘I played with him for many years, great personality, he’s good with his feet, good on the line, my expectations are high for Andre.
‘He’s a great person as well, I still speak with him sometimes, he’s a top-class goalie.’
Van de Beek also hailed United’s move to sign Mason Mount this summer.
‘Yeah, really good,’ Van de Beek said.
‘Mason, I’ve played against him in the past, so I’ve known him for a long time already as a player.
‘He’s a great player and a great person as well, it’s nice.’
