Barcelona are in talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez on a free transfer, according to reports in Spain.

The 20-year-old has made just one first-team appearance for the Gunners and spent last season on loan at Ibiza in Spain’s Segunda Division and at Wigan Athletic, who were relegated from the Championship.

However, Azeez failed to make an impact during his time at Wigan, making just two appearances before returning to Arsenal this summer.

The midfielder has not travelled with Arsenal’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States and another exit looks likely.

According to Sport, Barcelona are targeting Azeez as a signing for their B team, who play in the Spanish third tier.

The report claims that Barcelona are looking to sign Azeez on a free transfer, despite the player still having a year left on his contract, but will give Arsenal a percentage of any future sale.

Azeez’s loan spell at Wigan also ended in controversy after his brother was involved in a bust-up with the team’s manager Shaun Maloney.

Azeez’s brother, Femi, came on as a substitute for Reading in their 1-1 draw with Wigan in April, a result which ensured that Wigan dropped down to League One this season.

Miguel Azeez was not in Wigan’s matchday squad for the game and instead played for the Under-21s in their 3-2 defeat to Millwall the previous day.

It’s understood that Femi Azeez berated Maloney on the pitch after the final whistle.
