Daniil Medvedev is keen to avoid Centre Court ahead of his Wimbledon quarter-final against ‘very dangerous’ player Christopher Eubanks.

The Russian has reached the last eight at Wimbledon for the first time in his career and next faces unseeded American Eubanks, who has recorded shock wins over British No.1 Cameron Norrie and Greek fifth-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in SW19.

Medvedev and Eubanks played each other in Miami earlier this year as the world No.3 beat him 6-3 7-5 in the quarter-finals.

Ahead of their battle at the 2023 Championships, Medvedev is keen to avoid playing on Centre Court due to his successful run on Court 1 – where he has played three of his four Wimbledon matches this year, with the other on Court 2.

‘The thing is that it’s my fifth Wimbledon and I was not very successful but I’ve never lost on Court 1 so I feel sorry that I probably for the quarters am going to play on Centre Court,’ Medvedev said after his walkover win over Jiri Lehecka.

‘I’m like, ‘can I just continue here?’ – I love it. I never lost so far here. I’m really happy and looking forward to my next match. Hopefully I can give 100 per cent.’

Quizzed about his next opponent Eubanks, who is ranked world No.43, Medvedev said: ‘I know that I’m playing someone very dangerous in the quarter-finals who is on the rise right now.

‘I hope he’s not going to be on absolute fire. Or if he is, I hope I’m going to be, too. Yeah, I’m just going to try to do my best to beat him.

‘Christopher, he’s a great player. Miami was his first, let’s call it, breakthrough in a way.

‘That’s where he went into the top hundred, coming from quallies, made quarters. His best result at the moment.

‘He played great against me. It was a very tough match. I was on fire. I managed to beat him. But it was a tough one. Here he’s on fire again.

‘He just won his first ATP title. Here in the quarters beating Stefanos five sets, unbelievable.

‘I know I need to be at 100 per cent and at my absolute best physically, tennis-wise, and mentally to try to beat him.’
