New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would not rule out a move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane, talking up his ‘amazing’ relationship with the striker.

Kane’s future is in question yet again this summer as he has just one year left on his contract with Spurs and no new deal looks close to being agreed.

Bayern Munich have made a bid for him, which has been rejected, but the German giants are likely to return with an improved offer to test Tottenham’s resilience.

Spurs selling the England captain to a Premier League rival seems very unlikely, but any interested club needs only wait for 12 months before being able to snap him up on a free transfer.

A move across London to Chelsea would be so controversial for the Spurs legend that it seems farfetched, but Pochettino has now represented both clubs from the dugout and he sounded keen to work with Kane again.

‘I don’t like to talk about players in another club, but you are talking about one of the greatest, one of the best strikers in the world,’ he said of the 29-year-old.

‘It’s not fair to talk, it’s not fair to say nothing. People are not stupid, fans are not stupid, they are so clever and they know my relationship with him was always amazing.

‘I saw him when he was young, grow up and achieve all he was achieving and of course we have a great relationship.’

Chelsea’s squad is undergoing a lot of change this summer, mainly with players leaving, but also with new arrivals, including forwards Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.

However, Pochettino did not rule out another striker arriving before the end of the transfer window.

‘We’ll see,’ he said. ‘It depends on the situation and the circumstances. We are working. Football is really dynamic. What we have today maybe disappears tomorrow.

‘We need to be ready to … [if] we need more or not. Or maybe we go to the pre-season and we realise that we need to improve in different positions or add more players that can score, or we have enough. It’s really dynamic and we are going to assess every day the situation.’
