Russian World No.3 Danill Medvedev has sent a message to fans plotting to boo him at Wimbledon this year.
Medvedev was unable to play at last year’s Championships due to the All England Club’s controversial ban on Russian and Belarusian stars.
It remains to be seen what kind of reception players from those two nations will receive in SW19 with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine still ongoing.
Wimbledon has allowed Russians and Belarusians to once again compete but tournament chiefs have banned flags and say Russian media are not welcome.
‘I don’t know how it’s going to work with the fans,’ Medvedev said ahead of his first-round match against British player Arthur Fery on Tuesday.
‘You never know. You come on the court, I don’t know how will they feel.
‘When I go out in London or here even in Wimbledon, seeing some people from the grounds and stuff like this, I feel like we’re in a good relationship with London.
‘But you never know. Sometimes I can get angry on the court and lose the crowd. Sometimes I can get angry on the court and win the crowd like this. Let’s see how it goes.
‘The only thing, yeah, I love this tournament. As I said in the beginning, especially the first couple of days you come here, you’re like, Wow, there’s no better place. Let’s see if they (the fans) hear these words!’
Medvedev was booed and shushed spectators during his shock French Open exit last month.
