The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman has reassured all state-owned media outfits of the government’s commitment to equipping and rejuvenating them for optimum productivity in information dissemination in the state.
The SSG stated this when he received the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Hadiza Mohammed Shiru and Heads of Parastatals and Agencies of the Ministry in his Office.
He explained that the current administration is prepared to give priority attention to information considering its critical role of mobilization and enlightenment in the success of government programmes and policies in the state.
He pointed out that, ” the present administration led by Governor Mohammed Umar Bago is publicity conscious; hence the need for the government to equip and rejuvenate all the State-owned media outfits for optimum productivity in information dissemination”.
Usman tasked the Ministry and its Agencies to redouble their efforts toward the promotion of policies, programmes and achievements of the Government to the citizenry, ” Government will continue to motivate and improve working conditions of workers for greater productivity and result-oriented service”
“ Executive order by the State Government will be considered so that State-owned media outfits will gain patronage from Government Agencies and Parastatals for revenue generation”.
” The present administration will reintroduce Jama’a Forum an important platform for citizens’ participation and engagement in the development of the State”.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Hadiza Mohammed Shiru earlier told the SSG that the Ministry and its Agencies are responsible for tracking activities of the Government and disseminating such to the public.
Lamenting the current state of the obsolete equipment and dilapidated structures of all the State-owned media outfits, she called for Government’s urgent attention to salvage the outfits from imminent collapse.
In their separate remarks, General Manager, Radio Niger, Kabiru Ibrahim, Executive Director, Library Board, Haruna Ibrahim, Managing Director, Newsline Newspaper, Aisha Abubakar, Director, Niger State Book Agency, Mohammed Baba Alfa and Chairman, NUJ Information Chapel, Ismaila Favu appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the media outfits to boost information dissemination of government programmes in the state.
