Ladoja, who is the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, insisted that it is not part of the Ibadan tradition.

He made these declarations while addressing journalists at his residence on Wednesday during the Eid el-Kabir celebration.

Newspot reports that there are plans by the Oyo State government to install some high chiefs as kings, otherwise known as Oba. Ladoja, who was the governor of the state between 2003 and 2007, has, however, faulted the plan.

The former governor, while addressing journalists, noted that it is not proper for someone who is a high chief and Olubadan-in-waiting to wear a crown, especially when such an individual is in the Olubadan succession line.

According to him: “You don’t mend what is not broken. I don’t think it is right to make high chiefs Obas. The only crown I want to wear is the Olubadan crown. Everybody knows that it is God who makes one an Oba. As far as I am concerned, it is not proper for high chiefs to wear crowns. My intention is to become Olubadan.”
