The former lawmaker, who represented Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly, called on President Bola Tinubu to address the imbalance in the spirit of fairness and national cohesion.

Makinde, in a statement made available to Newspot on Tuesday, noted that a cursory look at the list of names on the promotional lineup in the government agencies brazenly demonstrates bias in favour of a particular section of the country.

Makinde stressed that the act of nepotism among those with power or influence favouring relatives, kinsmen, friends, or associates in government establishments is increasingly alarming.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, while speaking further, added that Nigeria can only progress through fairness and justice.

He appealed to Tinubu to give a national outlook to the NNPCL, NCS, and NIS in line with the federal character principle.

He urged Tinubu to, particularly, beam his searchlight on NNPCL.

“We must do all within the confines of the law to right every wrong and make every citizen of Nigeria believe in the unity of this country. By doing just that, we would all be proud of our nation.

“This clarion call is not to apportion blame to any tribe or region, but it is evident that what is happening in a place like NNPC and other key agencies is worrisome and should be corrected as soon as possible.

“I know for sure that there is a plan for promotion exercises to fill the existing vacancies. Many staff are still there without positions; mostly affected are people from certain regions aside from those at the top,” he stated.
