Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag supports a move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to reports.
United are readying a £34.9m bid for Onana as the club prepare to move on from David de Gea.
The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the month and an agreement over an extension is not believed to be close.
De Gea had been expected to sign a new deal at the club but United chose not to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his contract – which would have seen his salary increase given the club’s qualification for the Champions League.
The former Atletico Madrid stopper made a number of high profile mistakes last season, despite keeping 17 clean sheets in the Premier League.
United are now looking to move on and have held ‘tentative’ talks over a move for Onana, according to the Daily Mail.
They report that Onana fits the type of goalkeeper Ten Hag wants and the United boss backs a move for the Cameroon star after they worked together at Ajax.
Onana had been linked with a move to Chelsea but it is believed that the 27-year-old favours a move to Old Trafford instead.
He joined Inter last summer from Ajax, where he won three Eredivisie titles under Ten Hag’s management.
Onana lifted the Coppa Italia trophy with Inter last term and was part of the team which finished as Champions League runners-up to Manchester City.
