A postgraduate research scholarship funded by the Australian Research Council – Discovery Projects, the Scholarship aims to support students undertaking a PhD within the School of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, where the focus of their research will be on new rare-earth free solid-state magnetic materials. Scholarship recipients will focus on either synthesis, structural and physical property characterisation, or on data mining and computational modelling; with a flexibility to work across all aspects of the project.

Value of Award:
- The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance equivalent $29,880 per annum (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Requirements
To be eligible for this award, applicants must:
- Have an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled to study full-time in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) within School of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney
- Hold an honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a master’s degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent
- Be willing to undertake research in solid-state magnetic materials
- Be willing to work at major neutron and X-ray scattering facilities.
Method of Application
An applicant without an unconditional offer of admission may apply and be selected, however, no scholarship offer will be sent until the applicant has an unconditional offer of admission.
