The South-West zone of the National Councilors Forum of Nigeria has called for the arrest of protesters who approached the Defence Headquarters to call on the military to take over governance in Nigeria.

The group also condemned those promoting unholy and uncivil activities in the country and furnishing the international community with mischievous representations of what transpired during the just concluded general election.

At a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, the group called for action from the government to prevent further uncivil actions.

“We believe if the government is silent about that, many other uncivil actions would keep occurring in the nearest future,” the group said.

On calls for an interim government, the group said it was coming from election losers who “have no business in the much-needed democratic leadership of Nigeria.”

It said, “Interim government is illegality. It is unconstitutional. Hence, we as legislators in the South-West reject such requests outrightly. We wish our various state assemblies and National Assembly have a well-documented outright rejection of such illicit requests.

“We will not be just if we do not talk about the recent tribal interregnum going on between the Yoruba and Igbo in Lagos. This development is beyond politics, it is becoming a matter of concern.

“South-West zone of the National Councilors Forum wishes to state in affirmative, Lagos is in the South-West of Nigeria. The South-West region is a constitutional settlement of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. Our royal majesties are our heritage pride whom we respect. Our tribal visitors must not take our affability for granted. We in the South-West stand firmly irrespective of party affiliations with our Lagos indigenes, the government and our royal fathers. We will not wish our people to be disparaged. Our people deserve some respect to a very high extent.

“We also would want to appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for letting the presidential transition council do its job in preparing for the inauguration of the new administration. We wish him a comfortable and peaceful lifestyle after office. We also believe he will be proud to be a predecessor of our President-elect while he enjoys his elder statesmanship after office for a long time.”

The group also expressed the belief that the incoming administration would usher in good governance desired by responsible Nigerians.
