N5m Fine Against Channels: NBC Erred- Barrister Amadi.

In the late hours of Thursday 30 March 2023, Channels Television was fined N5 million by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over an interview with Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party vice presidential candidate, in which he said that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would not be sworn in as president.

Reacting to the N5 million fine on Channels Television, lawyer and politician, Dr. Sam Amadi, said Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign council was forcing the NBC to clear the contrary views about the election results without even being in government saying that an expression of a view about the election did not undermine the authority of INEC.

Sam Amadi said “Tinubu Campaign Council is slamming fundamental rights even without being in government. It is forcing DSS to clear the streets and the NBC to clear the airwaves of contrary views about the election results. Disputing election declarations by @inecnigeria is not an offense.”

Speaking Further, he said, “NBC does not know its work if it penalizes @channelstv for that interview. An expression of a view about the election does not undermine the authority of @inecnigeria. INEC makes the call, and people make the comments. That’s a right of expression.”
