The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested two suspected criminals accused of attacking kidnapping, raping and duping innocent residents of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

NSCDC State Commandant, John Fayemi, said on Friday that the corps also rescued four persons between the ages of 23 and 25 years, who were allegedly held hostage by the suspects.

The four victims, who were picked up in the hideout where the two suspects were nabbed, are, however, undergoing medical treatment.

A statement by Tolu Afolabi, the Corps Public Relations Officer, said Fayemi, who spoke in Ado Ekiti while parading the two suspects, Oluwafemi (23) and Olorunfemi (25), said, “They and others at large conspired and kidnapped the victims along Omisanjana area in Ado Ekiti after a brawl.”

Fayemi added that Oluwafemi had been threatening the victims because of an alleged failed business.

He said, “The suspects have confessed to be members of Eye Confraternity troubling Omisanjana and Matthew Street in Ado Ekiti where they launched several attacks on innocent people, kidnapping, raping and duping them before the long hand of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Command caught them in the act”.

“Before the arrest, the unit had been inundated with complaints from the areas that some groups of cultists were operating daily around there, which called for an immediate investigation by the CTU to curtail the activities of the cultist groups”.

The NSCDC boss explained, “During the operations which lasted for about 20 minutes, the kidnappers exchanged gunfire with the operative of the CTU. In the process, two (innocent) people were hit by bullets and they are currently receiving treatment at a government hospital,” he said.

Fayemi, who said that the suspects would be taken to court for prosecution on conclusion of investigations, frowned at the rate of breach of peace in Ado Ekiti.

He said, “Cultism in the state capital is taking a new dimension. The Command will not fold its arms and allow this to degenerate into chaotic situation”.
