The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Taraba State, Sen Joel Danlami Ikenya, has debunked the allegations that the state chapter of the party has abandoned its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for another party.
Ikenya, who was reacting to the alleged endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, guber candidate for the state, Kefas Agbu, also denied the endorsement stating that “I am still in the race”.
The former Minister of Labour and Productivity, who made the position of the party known on Friday while appearing on the ‘Correspondent’s Chapel Media parley, the Road to 2023’ said, “We have not abandoned our mandate”.
“We won our election at the national level, and we are working hard to retrieve our mandate in the country. Peter Obi need us, he needs our support so we cannot, and we will never abandon him,” he said.
The guber candidate, who noted that the party has embarked on plans to emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship election slated for the 18th of this month, said, “We are not only for a new Nigeria, but also for a new Taraba.”
The party leadership also urged its members spread across the state to distance themselves from the purported endorsement.
Aligning her weight to that of Ikenya, the party’s state chairperson, Esther Gulum, said the party “is fully prepared to go into the forthcoming contest.” She said the purported endorsement was the imagination of a desperate man.
