The newly-elected senator for Cross River South senatorial district, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr, has called on security agencies to fish out those that perpetrated violence during last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections in some polling units in the state.

Ekpenyong described the development as “very ugly” and should be condemned strongly.

One such violence reportedly happened in Akamkpa LGA of the state where a supporter of APC was injured, leading to his hospitalisation.

Ekpenyong who visited the victim, Adolf Najimi, spoke from his bedside at the Akamkpa General Hospital, saying: “Issues like this should not be tolerated and I call on the security agencies to swing into action and arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act, to serve as a deterrent to others.

“We have another important election coming up on March 2023. Therefore, we cannot allow thugs to run amok and disenfranchise our people,” the senator-elect said.

Narrating his ordeal, the victim, Adolf Najimi disclosed that he and his brothers were attacked by thugs on their way to their polling unit in Ikpai, Akamkpa Local Government Area.

While his brothers were lucky to escape unhurt, he was not so lucky, as he was beaten and left with a head injury.

Urging security agencies to beef up security around the area to prevent recurrences during the coming governorship Election, Najimi thanked Ekpenyong for paying his medical bill.
