Several principal officers at the House of Representatives have lost their bid to return to the federal parliament following the presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday.
Those who won include the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase; Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa; Deputy Minority Leader, Peter Akpatason; and Majority Whip, Mohammed Monguno.
However, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu; Deputy Majority Leader, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Deputy Minority Whip, Abdulmajid Adekoya, lost at the polls.
Several members of the Senate and the House also lost their reelection bid, with ‘freshers’ defeating the incumbent occupiers of the various legislative seats. This is just as new-comers lost their bids to become lawmakers.
In Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s son, Abba Ganduje, lost election for Tofa/Rimin Gado/ Dawakin Tofa Federal Constituency to Tijjani Jobe of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
The Collation Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Saminu Yahaya announced the results at the INEC office in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area on Sunday.
According to Yahaya, Jobe, who is the incumbent occupier of the seat, polled 52,456 votes to beat Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 44,809 votes.
In Delta State, the candidate of the PDP for Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhriatake Ibori-Suenu, floored the incumbent Ben Igbakpa of the New Nigerian Peoples Party.
Ibori-Suenu is the daughter of former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori.
The PDP candidate was declared winner by INEC after polling 20,814 votes, with the APC getting 15,172; NNPP, 8,901; APGA, 2,155; ADC, 637; and ZLP, 563.
INEC also declared Senator Godiya Akwashiki of the Social Democratic Party as the winner of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat in Nasarawa State.
The INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Ilemona Adofu, of Federal University Lafia, in the early hours of Monday, in Akwanga, declared Akwashiki as the winner with 44,471 votes.
Adofu said Akwashiki defeated the former Executive Secretary of the National Judicial Commission and senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Danladi Envuluanza, who scored 32,058 votes.
APC’s Alhassan Ado Dogowa was declared winner for Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Yakasai, said Doguwa scored 39,732 votes to defeat his closest rival, Salisu Abdullahi of NNPP, who polled 34,798 votes.
Similarly, Tijjani Jobe of the NNPP was declared winner for the Tofa/Rimin Gado/Dawakin Tofa Federal Constituency.
The REC, Prof. Saminu Yahaya, said Jobe polled 52,456 votes to beat Governor Ganduje’s son, Abba Ganduje of APC, who scored 44,809 votes.
The Returning Officer for Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency, Prof. Suleiman Bichi, announced the candidate of NNPP, Kabiru Rano, as the winner with 50,160 votes, beating Aliyu Musa Aliyu of APC, who scored 35,235 votes.
In Jigawa State, the opposition PDP won Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency, as its candidate Alhaji Dahiru Katika polled 47,836.
In Kano State, INEC declared Hamisu Chidari, the incumbent Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, as winner for Danbatta/Makoda Federal Constituency, with 30,346 votes, to defeated his closest contender, Badamasi Ayuba, of the NNPP, who scored 24,792 votes.
Similarly, Abdulmumi Jibrin of the NNPP was declared winner for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Knao State with 40,463 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sunusi Kiru, of the APC, who garnered 34,798 votes.
Sani Bala of the APC was declared winner of Kunchi/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in Kano with 25,000 votes, to beat Safiyanu Mohammed of the NNPP, who got 21,648 votes.
In the same vein, Adamu Sani of the NNPP was declared winner of the Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency election after scoring 49,274 votes, to beat Marau Sani of the APC, who scored 16,629 votes.
In Plateau State, INEC declared incumbent Dachung Bagos of the PDP as the winner of the Jos-North/Bassa Federal Constituency election.
Bagos scored 95,637 votes to beat seven other candidates, including the APC candidate, Gideon Davou, a serving chairman of Jos-South LGA, who polled 27,235 votes.
In Ekiti State, APC candidates in the six federal constituencies defeated their opponents.
INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Ekiti State Temitope Akanmu, said House of Representatives member, Olusola Fatoba, the APC candidate for Ado Ekiti/Ifelodun Irepodun Federal Constituency, had 39,182 votes to defeat six other candidates, including former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s son, Jomiloju, of the PDP, who polled 12,295.
Another incumbent House member, Femi Bamisile, of the APC, won the election in Emure/Gbonyin/Ekiti East Federal Constituency, having garnered 31,711 votes to defeat five others, the closest being Jennifer Emiola of PDP, who got 14,290 votes.
An erstwhile Chief of Staff to former Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mr Biodun Omoleye, of the APC scored 29,296 votes to win Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon Federal Constituency, with his closest rival, PDP’s Olalere Olayinka, who garnered 11,504 votes.
Also, the election for Ekiti South West/Ikere/Ise-Orun Federal Constituency was won by Air Vice Marshal Rufus Ojuawa (retd.) of the APC, who polled 30,699 to defeat five others, including Henrich Akomolafe of the PDP who scored 16,699 votes.
The APC candidate for Ido-Osi/Moba Ilejemeje Federal Constituency, Kolawole Akinlayo, of the APC got 25,701 votes to defeat five others including Samuel Ajayi of the PDP who secured 20,186 votes.
