The Grand Imam of Ekiti State and President-General of League of Imam and Alfas, South-West, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello has called on the Muslim faithful in the state to shun all acts of violence during and after the general elections.
The cleric gave this admonition during a prayer session at the Central Mosque, Ado Ekiti, for Nigeria and the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
The prayer session which was organised by the office of the Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Dr Hammed Bakare, was attended by Muslim leaders, community imams, heads of various Islamic institutions, as well as some university scholars.
According to him: “Today, we have gathered here today to seek Allah’s face for the pending elections. The election is crucial. We implore Muslims to conduct themselves peacefully and in an orderly manner before, during and after the poll.”
In his remarks, Dr Bakare said the prayer couldn’t have come at a better time than now when Nigerians are going through hardships.
The NSCIA chairman also urged Muslims to steer clear of any act of violence and brigandage during the polls.
