Real Madrid won the last meeting between the two sides – the Champions League final in Paris last May.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark when Vinicius Junior scored past compatriot Alisson to ensure the trophy returned to the Spanish capital.

The previous season, Madrid knocked Liverpool out in the quarter-finals courtesy of a 3-1 win on aggregate.

The two famous old clubs also met in the 2018 final, with Los Blancos once again emerging victorious following a dramatic 3-1 victory in Kyiv.
