The Labour Party has refuted a report that the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu recently met with the gubernatorial candidate of its party in Kano State.
Newspot recalls that reports emerged on Monday that Tinubu met with a purported governorship candidate of the party in Kano, Bashir Ishaq to woo him into the ruling party.
But the Chief Spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Aliyi Tanko who spoke with Newspot on Tuesday, said Bashir Ishaq was not the recognized candidate of the party.
According to him, the party’s chairman in the State, Mallam Mohammed remains the authentic candidate whose name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Tanko revealed that though Ishaq struggled to emerge as flagbearer of the party, he was not recognized.
He said, “That particular man that met with Tinubu has never been recognized by the INEC as a Labour Party candidate. He has never been our candidate.
“The candidate of the party is Mallam Mohammed, the LP Chairman. The man has never been recognized as our candidate; he was struggling to be but it didn’t work out for him”.
