Two security guards sentenced to death by hanging in Ondo

An Ondo State High Court has sentenced two men, Tasur Abubakar and Ayuba Idris to death by hanging for robbery and murder.

The court also found the duo guilty of conspiracy and sentenced each to seven years imprisonment.

The two men were brought before the court over the killing of Mr Kwaku Richard Kwakye and his 27-year-old daughter, Tope Kwakye, in their home on May 1, 2019, at Ojomo Akintan Estate, Olufoam in Akure.

The duo, who were the security guards of the deceased, had confessed to killing the father and the daughter with motorcycle cables under the influence of tramadol and other dangerous drugs, revealing that they strangled them to death.

The State Counsel, John Dada, said the two men, Idris, 24, and Abubakar, 27, were charged to court on five counts.

In 2019, they were arrested by detectives from the State police command over the killing of Kwaku Kwakye and his daughter, Tope Kwakye.

They were immediately charged to court on five counts ranging from conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder.

He said their offences contravened Sections 6(b),(1,2)(a)&(b),324,319, 319(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap11, Volume 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Justice Williams Olamide, in his judgment, pronounced the two convicts guilty of the charges against them by the police and sentenced them to death by hanging.
