Unknown gunmen struck in Anambra State In the early hours of January 12, 2022. This time at the secretariat of the Ihiala Local Government Area [LGA]. killed four people and burnt almost all the administrative blocks.
It was learnt that the attackers first engaged the vigilante men who were securing the secretariat in a gun duel. it resulted in the death of three [3] vigilante men and the death of one the gunmen.
The gunmen proceeded to unleash mayhem by setting fire to many of the buildings at the secretariat.
According to an eyewitness account,the buildings burnt down were ; the LGA administrative block was burned to the ground, the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] Offic, the Health office building the Youth Corpers [NYSC] Office , the Education Office w, and the National Civil Defense Office
The gunmen were known to have escaped. Some witnesses explained that the gunmen came from across the State – from Imo State near the border from Orlu, a community in Imo State. However it was gathered that shortly after their escape, the Nigerian security authorities arrived.
Interestingly, Ihiala environs has remained a hot for the activities of the unknown gunmen. This attack was not their first attack in the area.
