A communications specialist and senior crime reporter with Daily Trust Newspaper, Idowu Isamotu and five others have been attacked by gunmen along the Lokoja-Obajana road in Kogi State, The PUNCH reports.
Our correspondent exclusively gathered that the attack happened at about 5 pm on Wednesday.
In an SOS message sent to our correspondent, the reporter described the assailants as “terrorists”.
He said, “I’ve just been shot by terrorists along the Lokoja-Obajana road. Only God saved us.
“We were in a private car. We were four adults and two children in the vehicle. No one sustained any injury.”
Our correspondent gathered that were later escorted by the police to Kabba junction in Lokoja, and were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
When contacted concerning the incident, the Kogi State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, said the police in the area responded promptly and aided the victims
Aya said, “Your correspondence was correct. I’ve reached out to the DPO in the area, and he confirmed that the hoodlums attacked their vehicle and fled. But no one was hurt or sustained any injury. The police escorted them out of the incident scene to a safe place at Kaba in Lokoja.”
