The Kano State Consumer Protection Council on Thursday disclosed that it has confiscated over 1,200 substandard tricycle tyres within the metropolis.
The CPC Managing Director, Abubakar Ali-Muhammad, said the council received a tip-off about the tyre and immediately swung into action and uncovered the spot, where it was being sold.

“Following an operation at a warehouse located in a Rice Mill Company at Kuyan Ta Inna in Kumbotso Local Government area, where the tyres were stored and sold to tricycle operators at a subsidized price in the state, the tyres were impounded,” the statement read.
Ali-Muhammad urged tricycle owners and riders to always ensure that they bought and used standard spare parts for their tricycles in order to save the lives and property of passengers.
Also, he called on members of the public to voluntarily offer useful information to KSCPC toward achieving their set objectives.
The Managing Director, who reiterated his commitment towards fighting expired, fake and substandard products in commended Dr Abdullahi Ganduje for providing him the opportunity to serve the people of Kano.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Amalgamated Tricycle Owners and Riders Association, Kano, Alhaji Mansur Tanimu, confirmed the association had been receiving reports and complaints from its members about the substandard tyres.
However, he commended the Managing Director of the council for using his discretion to co-opt them in the operation.
