Wesley Fofana has suffered another injury setback, going off with a knee injury during Chelsea’s friendly with Brentford on Tuesday.
The Blues and the Bees met in a behind-closed-doors contest as they prepare for a return to Premier League action after the World Cup break.
However, while it was designed to get the players back up to speed, it has done the opposite for Fofana who was forced off through injury, reports football.London.
The 22-year-old has not played since October after suffering a knee injury then and his recovery has been hit with a blow, although the severity of the latest problem is not clear as yet.
The Frenchman has made just two Premier League appearances for the Blues since signing from Leicester City in the summer for a reported initial fee of £70m.
The centre-back has already missed a lot of football in his young career, playing just seven Premier League matches for Leicester in the 2021-22 season due to a broken leg.
Blues fans will be hoping his latest problem does not keep him out for long with a return to Premier League action on Tuesday 27 December at home against Bournemouth, before travelling to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.
The World Cup break paused Chelsea’s bad run of results in November, but they will need to rediscover some form when they return after losing their last three matches before the tournament in Qatar.
The poor run of results left the Blues eighth in the Premier League table and Graham Potter already under some pressure after taking over at Stamford Bridge in September.
