The Chief Imam of Halliru Bello Juma’at Mosque in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Malam Tukur Kola has appealed to the Federal and the Kebbi State governments to do all they could to ensure the release of the remaining eleven (11) students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri from their abductors.
Speaking during his Friday’s sermon, he lamented that it has been over a year since bandits attacked and abducted the girls from FGC in Birnin Yauri.
Newspot reports that the bandits on Thursday, 17th June, 2021, abducted 96 students and eight teachers from the College and many of the students were released to the State government in batches, but 11 of them are still being held for over a year and a half now.
He explained that some of the abducted students had delivered in the bandits’ hideouts, lamenting that one of the mothers of the abducted students died on hearing the news of her daughter delivering a baby for the bandits.
The Chief Imam noted that many were disappointed in the way the government was handling the issue of the release of the remaining 11 students from the bandits, saying that proactive measures should be taken by the government to ensure their immediate release.
According to him, “Their abductors are alive and staying in the forest of Kebbi and Niger States. How come it’s difficult for the government to secure the students’ release.”
He stressed that the parents of the girls were living in agony and depression over the fate of their children and urged the government to hasten action.
