The Algerian President, Abdulmadjid Tebboune, has expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on the promotion of bilateral relations, through trade and educational exchange.

Tebboune stated this while receiving the Kano monarch at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, shortly after arriving in Algeria to attend the International Conference on the Life and Times of Imam Al-Maghili at the invitation of the Algerian president.

He observed that the relationship between his country and Nigeria was based on strong historical facts, following the sojourn of Imam Al-Maghili in Kano.

Tebboune expressed his commitment to support any initiative that would promote bilateral cooperation, particularly through trade and educational exchange.

In a statement, the Emirate’s Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Naisa, disclosed that President Tebboune promised to extend more scholarship slots to Nigerian students to study in the fields of Sharia, sciences and vocational courses.

Earlier, the Emir of Kano recalled that the age-long historical ties between Kano and Algeria were traceable to the visit of the Algerian Islamic scholar and philosopher, Imam Abdurrahman Al-Maghili, to Kano in the 15th century.
