Simon Jordan has branded Nick Kyrgios a ‘silly little brat’ after his tantrum over being snubbed for the 2022 Newcombe Medal.

The 27-year-old accused Tennis Australia of ‘no respect’ and said that he didn’t ‘give a f***’ after they handed the award to female player Ashleigh Barty instead.

Kyrgios became the first unseeded man to reach a major final in 14 years at Wimbledon this year – finishing as runner-up after an impressive run to the final – which marked his best-ever performance at a Grand Slam in singles.

He also won the Washington Open, a 500 Series event, before registering his best finish at the US Open with a quarter-final appearance.

World No.22 Kyrgios impressed in doubles too, lifting the first major trophy of his career at the Australian Open alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.

But Kyrgios is notorious for his behaviour on and off the tennis court and Jordan has slammed the Aussie for his recent remarks following the snub.

‘Nick Kyrgios is a remarkable mercurial talent, but doesn’t actually win very much,’ Jordan told talkSPORT.

‘He’s been to a Grand Slam quarter-final and a final, he’s 27, he hasn’t won a Slam, and there have been great Australian players in the past, Pat Cash, Pat Rafter, Lleyton Hewitt, who actually won things.

‘So while he has got this remarkable talent, I think they [Australia Tennis and media] disrespect him because he respects himself with the waste of his talent at times.

‘And then you add in the puerility of some of his behaviour.

‘John McEnroe was awful with some of his on-court behaviour but he won, so people began to give him this begrudging respect because his achievements superseded his outbursts. But this guy [Kyrgios] doesn’t win.

‘Some of what he does is fair play, like calling out people in the crowd for being drunk and what have you but sometimes, I think he is a silly little brat who doesn’t act like an adult, he acts like a child.

‘I do think he is an exceptional talent and that makes his inability to do anything particularly formidable on a tennis court actually quite disappointing.’
