The Federal Government has been advised to deploy appropriate techniques utilising geospatial intelligence for the security agencies against armed criminals for lasting peace and security in Nigeria.
The President of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Johnbull Amayaevbo, gave the advice in an exclusive chat with our correspondent.
He said the system could be used to provide critical information about enemy forces, potential battle areas, and mission support.
The president listed imagery scan, chips, biometric data device, infrared, remote sensor as instruments that could galvanise defence and national security architecture for improved security network.
He said, “Geospatial Technology is a field of study that includes Geographic Information System, Remote Sensing, and Global Positioning System.
“A Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst can study visual data to provide Army leadership with critical information about enemy forces, potential battle areas, and mission support.”
Explaining its features, he said, “GEOINT uses imagery to survey and assess human activity and physical geography anywhere on Earth. GEOINT was initially a project by the U.S. military and is now used by academia and commercial enterprises to solve geographic problems.
“Imagery scan, chips, biometric data device, infrared, remote sensor and others. Geospatial intelligence is drawn from the science of geography and land survey. As such, GIS experts dwell more in this area of competence.
“The advanced countries also use it to predict occurrence of natural disasters like hurricane, wild fire among others.”
