Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has confirmed Paris Saint-Germain are not in the running to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is a free agent after being released by Manchester United following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, having initially pushed to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
His agent Jorge Mendes offered him to a number of clubs across Europe with none tempted into making an offer for the 37-year-old.
Reports have suggested the Portugal international has agreed to join Saudi Arabian side in a staggering deal worth £432million.
But speaking after Portugal’s 6-1 thrashing of Switzerland in their World Cup quarter-final clash, Ronaldo briefly insisted there is no truth to the reports.
Ronaldo’s original preference was thought to remain in Europe with Al Khelaifi quizzed on interest from PSG in an interview with Sky.
But with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar already leading a fearsome attack, he ruled out the possibility of the former Real Madrid star making a shock move to Paris.
‘The three players that we have [Messi, Neymar and Mbappe], it’s very difficult, but I wish him all the best. He’s fantastic and he’s still an amazing player.’
Ronaldo’s immediate focus is regaining a place in the Portugal XI, having been dropped to the bench in Tuesday’s win over the Swiss.
The striker made a late appearance off the bench, but only after his replacement, 21-year-old Benfica starlet Goncalo Ramos had netted a stunning hat-trick.
Portugal take on Morocco to book a place in the semi-finals on Saturday.
While he didn’t rule out the possibility of Ronaldo returning to the starting XI, manager Fernando Santos suggested another place on the bench could await for that game.
‘Ronaldo will definitely (be involved), all the players on the bench can be used, if they are not in the starting line-up they can play later,’ Portugal manager Fernando Santos said when asked if Ronaldo will play against Morocco.
‘It is important to look at the example of this player’s history, he is one of the best players in the world at playing professionally, being captain – all we have to do is think about this team collectively.’
