The Adele Oloko of Orile Oko in Remo North Local Government, Ogun State, Olalekan Olakunle, has identified community policing as a strategy that can help solve the insecurity issues facing south-west states.

Olakunle, who is also the patron of the Ogun State Police Community Relations Committee, noted that the participation of community members in security operations will make solving crimes easy and more effective.

He said this on Monday while being honoured with a National Outstanding Award by the national body of PCRC for his contributions towards the progress of the organisation.

The award was bestowed on him by the PCRC national chairman, Farouq Maiyama.

The traditional ruler stressed that community policing is related to problem-oriented policing and intelligence-led policing.

He further emphasised that communities need to help prevent crime by providing advice and encouraging neighbourhood watch groups.

He added, “Community policing help improve trust between law enforcement and residents. And there will be more accurate information from residents regarding criminal activity in their community.

“The award given to me was a great reason to motivate me to do more for the state and Nigeria as a whole

“I am happy with the award and I believe God will give me the strength to do more and also hope the police will do more to reduce crime to the lowest rate possible in the state.

“PCRC is working relentlessly to make sure that there is sustainable peace in Ogun State.

“We need to thank the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun who is security-conscious and for providing the police with vehicles to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.”

While presenting the award to Olakunle, the National chairman described him as an individual with a strong passion for Community development and a great supporter of PCRC.

Maiyama added that the award was bestowed upon him in recognition of his contributions toward the progress of the PCRC in Ogun State and at the national body.

He described him as a great philanthropist and man of integrity.
