Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on signing Chelsea star Christian Pulisic in January due to the forward’s tactical flexibility.

The American wants to leave Stamford Bridge after being ostracised by Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this term.

The winger is in his fourth year in west London since a £58m move from Dortmund but injuries and managerial turmoil have contributed to a disappointing stint with the Blues.

Nevertheless, there’s no doubting Pulisic’s quality and he showed that during a 0-0 draw with England on Friday, when he was named Man of the Match.

United made an attempt to sign Pulisic last summer but they eventually decided in favour of a far more expensive move for Ajax star Antony, who joined in an £85m deal.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious exit has left the side short in attack with Anthony Martial the only centre forward available to Ten Hag.

Though Pulisic is more of a traditional winger, he can play on both flanks and in a central position.

According to ESPN, it’s Pulisic’s tactical flexibility that has attracted Ten Hag to the Chelsea star’s availability and United are preparing to make a loan move for him in January.

United are looking for a short-term solution to their problems in attack, as a long-term striker is expected to be the club’s priority next summer.

Whether Chelsea would countenance Pulisic joining a direct rival remains to be seen but United would cover all of the American’s wages, which are believed to be around £130,000-a-week.
