The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Funso Doherty, on Saturday, said louts, popularly called ‘Agbero’, were part of the power structures that brought the ruling party into power in the state.

Doherty, while addressing journalists during a campaign tagged ‘Funso Doherty runs Lagos’, said touts were central to the problems confronting residents on various roads in the state.

He explained that a vote for the ruling party would sustain touts’ grip on power, adding that part of his agenda when elected would be to tackle the problems caused by them.

Doherty said, “There is too much chaos on our roads and central to that problem is the ‘Agbero’ problem. Everywhere that I go in various local governments, while speaking to people, they complain about this ‘agbero’ problem and this contributes greatly to the chaos that we see on Lagos roads.

“It is important that people understand that the problem caused by agbero cannot be solved under the existing ruling party because they are part of the power structures that brought the ruling party into power. A vote for the ruling party will sustain the hold of the agbero power on the system.

“So, my appeal to Lagosians is that if they want to solve that problem of ‘agbero’, they need to elect a leadership and when I am elected, we will resolve the issue of ‘agbero’ as we believe that with the good intentions of government, if you have the interest of the people at heart, and it is the people that elected you, and gave you their mandate, when you get to Alausa, you will act in the interest of those people and not in the interest of touts.”
