Manchester United have set a deadline to force Cristiano Ronaldo out of Old Trafford.
The Red Devils plan to resolve Ronaldo’s future before their first Premier League game back after the World Cup on 21 December.
The Red Devils said in a statement on Friday that they have ‘initiated appropriate steps’ following the Portuguese’s explosive interview during the week with Piers Morgan.
ESPN now reports that Manchester United would prefer not to sue Ronaldo in order to avoid a potentially lengthy legal battle.
According to the report, Ronaldo’s response to Man United’s plans to terminate his contract will decide their course of action.
Ronaldo is currently with the Portugal squad ahead of their World Cup group opener against Ghana on Thursday.
The Red Devils’ next game comes up on 21 December when Erik ten Hag’s side host Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
United hope for a decision to be finalised before then.
