Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on ‘influential’ Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard and says the midfielder is having a ‘great’ season.
The Norwegian scored twice in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Wolves on Saturday night, which gives the Gunners a five-point cushion on Manchester City at the top of the table.
City’s defeat against Brentford means Arsenal will be top of the pile at Christmas as the Premier League pauses for the World Cup.
The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka and William Saliba have earned plaudits this term for taking Arsenal to new heights under Mikel Arteta.
But Odegaard has been another star performer for the side this season and has stepped up as club captain.
And Redknapp believes that Odegaard deserves more praise for the ‘great’ season he’s having.
‘Odegaard’s had a great season, a lot of people talk about different players, if Saliba gets injured what might happen to the team but I think you have to put him in that bracket as well,’ said Redknapp.
‘He’s such an influential player for the team the way he controls the game.
‘Especially heading forward, Jesus is having a bit of a moment, he’s playing well and doing a great job for the team but not got the goals.
‘That’s when you need your midfield players, wide men can they chip in and make the difference. So for him to get two goals is just so important for the team.’
