Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, inaugurated a modern 30-computer systems ICT laboratory for students at Perfect Memorial School, Mwari, in Bauchi State.

The ICT lab, which was remodeled by YouthHubAfrica, was funded by Huawei Technology Limited, as part of its corporate social responsibility activities in Nigeria. While YHA remodeled one of the school’s existing buildings into a modernised ICT lab, Huawei provided the ICT facilities for the students’ use.

The lab is equipped with 31 computers, 17 Universal Power Systems, 1 projector, and a projector screen. It is expected to provide students with access to digital education, and to learn about skills that will better position them for the future of work.

Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Gambari, represented by the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Fund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, thanked Huawei for the initiative, noting that the lab offered the students an opportunity to remain connected to the global world, while also providing them with the requisite skill to compete with their peers across the globe.

Prof. Gambari reiterated the commitment of the President to prioritising human capacity building through investments in quality education. He stated that Huawei’s approach in providing facilities and ICT laboratories, through its social responsibility programme, would open a scientific window for students, which was consistent with the President’s philosophy.

In his remarks, Huawei Technologies Deputy Managing Director, Kelvin Yang, said the initiative would provide the youngsters and the school with unparalleled resources for teaching, research, learning, and other academic needs. He noted that the facility was a demonstration of the company’s goal to enhance ICT knowledge in the educational institution.

Yang commended Prof. Gambari for his support and emphasised that Nigeria’s Federal Government attached great importance to the cultivation of young talents and helping young students master ICT technology, which, he said, was important to the people.

Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, Executive Director of YouthHubAfrica, Rotimi Olawale, expressed hope that the students of the institution who were benefitting from the initiative, would emerge to become productive members of their community and be at the frontline of the digital revolution in Africa.
