Insecurity: Atiku vows to restore ECOMOG operations

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said that he would restore the operations of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group if elected president in 2023.

The former Vice President noted that the move would tackle the insecurity bedevilling the country and ensure regional peace and stability.

Atiku stated this on Friday at a Business Breakfast meeting tagged ‘Nigeria’s Time to Recover’ in Abuja.

He said, “I have visited some West African countries in the last few months, what I told them is Nigeria will be back. Nigeria has been retreating in the past seven years, did you hear about Nigeria again in the Economic Community of West Africa States?

“I told those presidents that I will bring back ECOMOG. I will ensure multi National forces to ensure regional security, peace and Stability. So that all we can deal with this insecurity decisively.”

According to Daily Trust, Atiku also spoke about the proposal for the Niger Delta ministry.

He said, “The ministry should be situated in the Niger Delta. Whether it is Port Harcourt or any other place, the responsibility is to develop the infrastructure and human capital of the Niger Delta.”
