The Federal University, Oye Ekiti has been reassured of support and cooperation by its host community, Oye Ekiti, towards achieving peace, growth and accelerated development of the institution.

The Oloye of Oye Ekiti, Oba Michael Ademolaju, who said the community had, since the establishment of FUOYE in 2010, been doing a lot to ensure peaceful co-existence between them, assured the university management and students that the community would not relent in its efforts.

Oba Ademolaju spoke at Oye Ekiti at a stakeholders’ meeting tagged ‘Crown, Gown and Town parley’ convened by the town in reaction to a publication by the university and the need for peaceful co-existence between Oye Ekiti and FUOYE.

FUOYE Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, and the Students’ Union leadership had in statements recently expressed concerns over what they termed “hostile treatment” accorded students in the community and contractors at the university sites by the indigenes.

The monarch, who assured that Oye Ekiti people would live to their billing as “peace-loving and admirers of development through the institution,” appealed to the Federal Government and the university management to consider payment of compensations to citizens who had their farmlands and crops destroyed to pave way for construction.
