Jermaine Jenas singled out William Saliba for praise after Arsenal’s Premier League victory over Chelsea, describing him as ‘different class’.
Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
In a scrappy affair, Gabriel’s close-range finish from Bukayo Saka’s cross broke the deadlock and separated the sides as Arsenal clinched their 11th win of the season.
Chelsea’s forwards were feeding off scraps as Arsenal defenders Saliba, Gabriel, Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko impressed.
Explaining his decision to name Saliba as Player of the Match, Jenas told BT Sport: ‘Arsenal’s spine has been sensational today, from Gabriel Jesus to Thomas Partey.
‘But I have to give it to William Saliba because he’s really impressed me. He’s commanded things from the back, been assured on the ball. He’s different class, he’s been different gear all game.’
Arsenal’s win sees them return to the top of the Premier League after Manchester City briefly dislodged the Gunners following their 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday.
For Chelsea, they have now secured just two points from their last four league games and lost successive matches for the first time since 2020.
The Blues, seventh in the table, are now 13 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and four points outside the top-four places.
