Police in Anambra State have issued a stern warning against the celebration of ‘Cult Day’ in the state on Sunday.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the state police command, stated that there are rumors circulating about plans by cultists to observe their day on Sunday. He emphasized that anyone apprehended in connection with this would face severe consequences.
In a press release, Ikenga stated: “To this end, the Command cautions hoteliers, bar proprietors, and managers of event/recreation centers to be vigilant regarding such gatherings in their premises, as there will be repercussions for non-compliance.”
“Parents and guardians are also urged to advise their children to uphold the law and refrain from actions that could disturb the peace in the state.”
The command reiterated its commitment to enforce the recently enacted Anti-Cultism Law against anyone involved in cult-related activities or any action that jeopardizes security in the state.
Ikenga added: “Information received indicates that a group of criminally minded individuals, under the guise of Cult Day, have planned a celebration tomorrow, July 7, 2024.”
“This event is notorious for its violence and bloodshed. The police command advises these individuals or groups to immediately desist, as we are constitutionally mandated to safeguard lives and property and will not permit such elements to undermine the progress achieved in combating cult-related incidents. Offenders will be dealt with decisively.”
“The police and other security agencies remain steadfast, committed and dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the state at all times.”
